For the 20Time project, I decided to spend my time on puff pastry. I will be researching different techniques, the history, and other topics related to it. Most importantly, I'll be learning how to make it, with the end goal of trying to be able to master it.
I thought about other possible ideas, but none of them really interested me enough, and all kind of fell flat. I considered learning to draw, but there were multiple complications. Firstly, I couldn't think of a way to narrow the scope of the project down, and still enjoy it, and secondly, I couldn't think of a research aspect to go along side it. I'm not particularly interested in the history aspect of art, just the practice, so even if I could think of something to research that was related to my topic, there's no guarantee that I would actually enjoy doing it. I thought about gymnastics, but again, not really much of a research element. Beyond that, it might have been a bit difficult to procure practice areas. My third idea was to tutor someone. This was the worst one. Not only do I dislike talking to and teaching people, this just isn't fun and doesn't interest me. Outside of the drawing idea, I didn't ever seriously consider using these ideas for the project.
In reference to the actual making of the puff pastry, the process will consist firstly of building up to actual puff pastry with pie crust or some other type of pastry. From there, I'll try as many different types of desserts that use puff pastry. This is to give me the highest number of possibilities to make it, and therefore master it. If I try enough different recipes, by the end I hope to be as confident in my abilities as possible. I'll document my experiences with it, and the things that I make, in this blog.
Maybe you're wondering why I chose this. Maybe you're not. I don't really care either way, so I'm going to tell you anyways. I've always been fond of baking, and I did it a lot over the last year-and-a-half. I baked desserts from cookies to bread to cheesecake, and honestly had fun doing it. I also watched the baking show, The Great British Baking Show with my family. This TV show presents so many different techniques, flavours, and delicious food, that it is honestly impossible to watch it on an empty stomach. This show is where I got my inspiration for the project. A technique that They use a lot on the show is puff pastry. Using said pastry, they make desserts that look absolutely delectable, so I wanted

to learn how to make things that taste as good as they look. The technique is also very versatile, so making something every so often would leave plenty of desserts not made. Using it you can make anything from danishes to tarts to strudels.
This is just the introductory post on my project, so I hope that you'll join me for the ride.
